The long-awaited Gaza cease-fire deal that made the exchange of prisoners between Israel and Hamas possible began on Sunday.
According to the Associated Press, 90 Palestinian prisoners and “detainees” were released by Israeli authorities. All of those released were woman or minors. They had been imprisoned for offenses ranging from throwing stones to “attempted murder.”
The first three Israeli hostages held by Hamas – all women – were released in Gaza.
Overall, 33 hostages and almost 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees will be freed in the opening “first phase” of the cease-fire.

Trump to be sworn in on Monday
President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in as the nation’s 47th president at noon on Monday in inauguration ceremonies to be held in the Capital building in Washington, D.C. because of extremely cold weather.
The New York Times is reporting that Trump held a rally in the downtown area Sunday complete with a musical performance by The Village People of the gay anthem “YMCA” and criticism of outgoing President Joe Biden.
He promised to undo many of Biden’s policies and issue 100 or more “executive orders” to implement his own.
Rams came close in Philly, but …
Playing in a freezing, snow-blanketed stadium in Philadelphia. the Los Angeles Rams played well Sunday against the Eagles but ultimately lost 28-22 in the NFC Divisional Game.
The Rams led 7-6 in the early going and were tied 13-13 in the third quarter but the Eagles scored three field goals, a touchdown and a safety to pull ahead 28-15.
LA was able to pull within six after a TD pass with 1:48 to play, but could get no closer.
Saquon Barkley scored on runs of 78 and 52 yards to lead the Eagles, who will face the Washington Commanders for the NFC title. Matthew Stafford passed for 324 yards for the Rams, whose efforts were hurt by three turnovers.
In an AFC divisional game, the Buffalo Bills defeated the Baltimore Ravens 27-25 and will face the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship.

Winds from the northeast of 19 miles an hour are expected with a 7 percent chance of rain. Tuesday should warm to 73 (47) under partly cloudy skies and winds of 9 miles an hour, also from the northeast.
