A cold case from 2022 in Westminster may have been solved with the arrest this week of Los Angeles resident Kevyn Scott, 23.
According to Commander Andy Stowers of the Westminster Police Department, the arrest was made by WPD detectives on Wednesday in Los Angeles as Scott arrived to meet with his parole officer.
Scott is being held on charges of burglary and parole violation.
The burglar charge stems from a break-in on on April 27, 2022 at a home in the 13500 block of Richardson Way, south of Trask Avenue and west of Beach Boulevard. The house had been ransacked and “expensive jewelry” taken.
The WPD forensics unit collected DNA evidence and sent it to the Orange County Crime Lab. After nearly three years, a match was found, indicating Scott, who was on parole at the the time for burglary.
“Although this case took over three years to solve, the everyday advancements in DNA evidence continues to solve crimes,” said Stowers.
