The death toll from flooding in Texas has climbed to 104 with an “unknown number” of people still missing, the Associated Press is reporting.
The count of those dead is expected to rise.
The flooding is the result of heavy rain in central Texas and along the Guadalupe River and more rain is forecast.
Help has arrived form Florida and Louisiana and even from a crew of firefighters from the Mexican border town of Acuna.
In Washintgon, the Trump Administration is pushing back against the suggestion that cuts in the staff at the National Weather Service may have contributed to the loss of lives.
Trump threatens more tariffs
Tariffs against Japan, South Korea and other nations will go into effect on Aug. 1, unless those nations make a trade deal by that date, President Donald Trump announced on Monday.
Also included are Malaysia, Indonesia and South Africa.
Also announced was an extension on the threat of tariffs on other nations.
In a letter to the presidents of Japan and South Korea, Trump threatened a levy of 25 percent starting in August if those nations didn’t agree to what the president called “more balanced, and fair, TRADE.”
Wall Street reacted with declines, including a 0.8 percent drop in the S&P 500.
Sports; Dodgers continue their skid
The Los Angeles Dodgers lost their fourth game in a row on Monday, losing 9-1 to the Milwaukee Brewers.
A five-run first inning gave the home team a big early lead and the Blue Crew didn’t score until the top of the eighth, trailing 9-0.
Yoshi Yamamoto (8-7) had a rough start, lasting only two-thirds of an inning while yielding four hits and five runs – three of them earned. He walked two batters and struck out none.
The Dodgers are 56-36 and remain in first place in the National League West. The Brewers improved to 51-40 and are in second in the National League Central.
The Los Angeles Angels are hosting the Texas Rangers in Anaheim.
Weather: Warm, cooling slowly
The pleasantly warm conditions that have settled over our West Orange County cities will begin cooling toward the weekend. The forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday is for daytime highs of 87 with lows of 64.
Skies are expected to be mostly sunny on Tuesday and sunny on Wednesday. Thursday will cool a bit to 86 (65) with partly sunny skies followed by 81 (64) on Friday with partly cloudy conditions.
