Now that all our area high school football teams have played at least one game, here’s our initial High Five for the 2025 season.

Edison – as usual – is ranked number one for our coverage area of Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.

The Chargers are 1-1, having suffered a mild upset last week, losing 21-17 to Yorba Linda. They’ll try to bounce back this Friday against Lakewood (1-1).

Next is the only undefeated team in our High Five, Western (2-0).

The second-ranked Pioneers defeated Villa Park 27-20. They’ll face a challenge in our third-place team, Huntington Beach (1-1), which lost 20-19 to Trabuco Hills last week. That’s a Thursday game.

In fourth is Orange. The Panthers (1-1) rebounded from a loss to Huntington Beach with a 46-43 win over Laguna Hills. OHS will face Los Osos (1-1) on Friday.

Rounding out the High Five is Marina (1-1), a 37-14 loser to Wilson High of Long Beach.

Next up for the Vikings is a contest Thursday against Fountain Valley (1-1).

On the bubble are Pacifica (1-1), Westminster (1-1), Garden Grove (0-2) and Rancho Alamitos (0-1).

The High Five is based on the rankings compiled by MaxPreps.com.
