The concept of hiring temporary private security guards to supplement the work of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in fighting crime and dealing with other problems advanced at Tuesday’s meeting of the Stanton City Council.

After some discussion, the council voted to direct city staff to proceed with the creation of a request for proposals and bring the item back to the city council at a future meeting of the council.

An RFP typically includes the cost and scope of work for contracted services.

The proposal for private security comes as concerns about prostitution and homelessness have become prominent.

The vote was 3-1-1 with Gary Taylor opposed and Donald Torres abstaining.

Also on Tuesday, the council voted to direct city staff to proceed with research on renter’s rights and bring it back to the council at a future meeting.
