After two weeks of league play, it’s Huntington Beach and Ocean View, each at 6-1 overall.
The Oilers won a crucial Epsilon League game on Friday night, defeating La Habra 35-30 to improve to 2-0 in conference play.
Brady Edmunds completed 18 of 21 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns. Steel Kurtz ran back a kickoff for a score and passed for another touchdown.
The Seahawks blanked Santa Ana Valley 28-0 and likewise has a 2-0 record in their Sigma League. That sets up a likely battle for the title next week against Calvary Chapel of Santa Ana, also 6-1 and 2-0.
In the Epsilon League, the Oilers are tied at 2-0 with Crean Lutheran of Irvine and will face the Saints in two weeks.Pacifica’s 55-7 romp over Woodbridge put the Mariners at 2-0 (4-3 overall) in the Omircon League, tied for the lead with Portola of Irvine, also 4-3 and 2-0.
Those two will meet on Oct. 30 in the final game of the regular season.
Starring for the M’s were James Anema, who rushed for 331 yards and five touchdowns, and Ma’Kai Brown, who passed for 139 yards and one score. David Carlson caught seven passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns.
In a surprisingly low-scoring Kappa League contest, Westminster defeated Garden Grove 27-13. The Lions (3-4 overall, 1-1) won by containing the Argonauts’ star running back Quentin Pacelli to just 71 yards rushing. The Argonauts are 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the Kappa League.
Western, ranked second in our High Five (Edison had the week off), lost 28-21 to El Modena. The Pioneers are 4-3 and 0-2 while the Vanguards rose to 4-3 and 2-0, tied with Capistrano Valley and Tustin for the Delta League lead.
Orange, our third-ranked team, lost a slugfest to Dana Hills, 49-28 in the Foxtrot League. The Panthers are 4-3 overall and 1-1; the Dana Hills Dolphins are 7-0 and 2-0 and tied for Laguna Beach for first place.
The star for Orange was quarterback Star Thomas, who passed for 255 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 57 yards.
Bolsa Grande’s 24-0 win over Loara in the Tango League on Thursday put the Matadors (4-3 overall, 2-0 in league) in a tie for first with Costa Mesa (6-1, 2-0). Their showdown is next week at the Mustangs’ field.
Damien Sanchez led a balanced Mat attack with 93 yards rushing and one TD. Abraham Trejo passed for 57 yards and one score.
