The national issue of the controversial immigration crackdown is back in the local news.

A proposed resolution put forth by Councilmember Ariana Arestegui (Disttuct 6) will be taken up by the Garden Grove City Council when it meets on Tuesday evening.

She’s proposing the adoption of a resolution “promoting protection of due process and civil liberties for all.”

The resolution, if passed, would require the city to rally municipal services on behalf of Garden Grove’s immigrant and refugee residents, calls upon community organizations, religious groups and businesses to “collaborate to contribute time and resources to assist residents in Garden Grove impacted by ongoing immigration enforcement activity.”

It also calls on “all enforcement agencies operating within the city to respect the civil liberties and rights of every individual.”

A similar resolution proposed by Arestegui in August failed to win approval.

The council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.
