Three potentially controversial politically-charged proposed resolutions are on the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting of the Westminster City Council.
The proposed resolutions are:
• the redesignation of street name signs in honor of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on All American Way between Westminster Boulevard and 13th Street in the Civic Center;
• declaring Oct. 14 to be Charlie Kirk Day in Westminster;
• denouncing “communism and discourage supporters, agitators and instigators of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and members of the Vietnamese Communist Party from visiting he city.”
The street sign resolution was requested by Mayor Chi Charlie Nguyen, as was the resolution denouncing communism. The proposal on declaring a Charlie Kirk Day was from Councilmember Amy Phan West (District 1).
Kirk was a prominent speaker and radio host popular among hard-line conservatives and Christian Nationalists.
He was a prominent ally of Donald Trump.
Kirk was fatally shot on Sept. 10, 2025 at a rally in Illinois. His birthday is Oct. 14, 1993.
The city council will meet at 8200 Westminster Blvd. with a closed session at 4 p.m. and the open session at 6 p.m.
