M’s , Chargers carry the flags

And then there were two.

That’s how many of our West Orange County teams have advanced to the CIF-SS football playoffs second round games to be played on Friday.

Here’s a look at the matchups.
Pacifica (8-3) was the champion of the Omicron League and began the Division 10 tournament with a 35-14 win over El Rancho.

The Mariners are more of a passing team than a ground-pounder. James Anema, the quarterback, is passing for an average 203.4 yards per game, with his favorite target being David Carlsson, who’s averaging 102.8 yards receiving.

They can run, too, as Ma’kai Brown is averaging 111 yards a game.

Kole Chapman is averaging 10.1 tackles a game. Robert Bernard is averaging one sack per contest.
The opponent will be the Liberty Bisons from Winchester (6-5), who inished second in the Ivy League. They beat West High of Torrance 42-35 to advance to the second round.

They emphasize rushing, averaging 233.5 yards per game. Farris Peacock (yes, that’s his real name) rushes for an average of 107.6 yards. QB Devin Dillard passes for 113.5 yards a game.
Lucas Saenz is the defensive star with 7.6 tackles per game.

In Division 3 action, Edison (6-5) will take on Inglewood (6-5).

The Chargers finished an unfamiliar last place in the tough four-team Alpha League but remain one of the top-ranked teams in California. They defeated city rival Huntington Beach 31-19 in their first round game.

Edison has a strong passing attack with Sam Thomson averaging 162.1 yards per game. He’s complemented by the rushing of Samuel Edmisten, who’s running for 58.2 yards per game. A defensive standout is Jude Gonterman with 10.4 tackles on average.

The Sentinels can pass and run. Lincoln Jahn has thrown for 254.1 yards per game with Semaj Welch carrying for 115.9 yards each evening, on average.

Robert Nobles gets 9.6 tackles per game for the Sents.
