How could you lose and move into undisputed possession of first place?

It happened on Tuesday night at Nationwide Arena in Ohio when the Anaheim Ducks lost 4-3 in overtime to the home Columbus Blue Jackets. However, the OT loss earned the home team one point, and that meant 42 points in the NHL Pacific Division, one point ahead of the second place Vegas Golden Knights (41 points). For now, at least.

The Ducks trailed most of the game, and went into the third period behind 3-2, but Jackson La Combe tied it for Anaheim with a wrist shot at 16:44. It was his sixth score of the season.

But the Ducks went down to defeat in extra time when the Blue Jackets’ Adam Fantilli lit the red lamp at 3:32.

Other Ducks goals were by Ryan Strome (his second of the season) and Mikael Granlund (fourth).
The win allowed Columbus to snap a five-game skid.

Next up for the Ducks (20-12-2) will be on Friday back in Orange County hosting the Dallas Stars (22-7-5).
