The hopes of our West Orange County cities for a CIF-SS championship rest with two high school squads: Edison High of Huntington Beach and Pacifica High of Garden Grove.
They’ll play games on Friday and Saturday in the semifinals. A win gets them into the championship game.
In the Division 3 game, The Edison Chargers (7-5 overall) will face the Palos Verdes Sea Kings (9-3) in a rematch of an earlier non-league game won 21-20 by the green-and-gold on Sept. 12.
In that game, Sam Thomson passed for 184 yards and two touchdowns to lead Edison. Palos Verdes was led by Ryan Rakowski, who passed for 108 yards and one score and also rushed for 104 yards on 14 carries, scoring twice.
The game will be played Friday at the Palos Verdes High stadium.
Whoever wins gets to take on the winner of the Chino Hills vs. Pacifica (Oxnard) on Nov. 28.
In the Division 10 contest, Pacifica (9-3) will take on the Hillcrest Trojans of Riverside on Friday.
The Mariners are on a seven-game winning streak and have won a second straight Omicron League title.
James Anena has thrown 28 touchdown passes for the Mariners, about half of them to David Carlsson (13).
On the ground the chief weapon for Pacifica is Ma’Kai Brown with 10 rushing touchdowns.
Hillcrest (7-5) is led offensively by Matthew Reyes, who has thrown for 20 touchdowns and added eight more on the ground. The top rusher is Reyez Ortiz with 16 scores.
The game is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. at Norte Vista High School in Riverside
The winner of this game will face the winner of the Santa Monica-Tahquitz in the title game on Nov. 28.
