Return disaster funds: judge

A FEDERAL JUDGE has ordered the return of disaster funds to some states (Shutterstock).

Disaster money must be restored to states that refuse to cooperate with certain federal immigration enforcement.
According to the Associated Press, that’s the ruling of U.S. District Judge Mary McElroy on a suit by attorneys from eight Democratic-led states and the District of Columbia.

The U.S Department of Homeland Security has withheld over $233 million from those states and D.C. because they include some “sanctuary” cities and counties.

She stated that such cuts in federal funding was “arbitrary and capricious.”

Oklahoma U. instructor is fired

An instructor at the University of Oklahoma has been fired after he was accused of religious discrimination for giving a failing grade to a psychology student who cited the Bible as a source proving that multiple genders was “demonic.”

According the the Associated Press, the college’s only comment was that the instructor – Mel Curth – had been “arbitrary” in giving the student a “zero” grade on the paper.

The university ruled that the grade on this paper – about 3 percent of the final grade– would not count.

National Guard deployment blocked in Chicago

The U.S Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked the deployment of hundreds of National Guard troops to Chicago on Tuesday. Such deployment came over the opposition of Illinois officials.

The New York Times is reporting that the court cited an 1878 law that bans the use of military force for domestic law enforcement.

This ruling seems to be at odds with earlier court rulings which supported the use of troops in association with immigration enforcement. The White House has argued that the soldiers were not doing police work, but protecting federal property and the lives of federal immigration workers.
