Tabitha Sanchez batted 4-for-6 with a home run, five stolen bases and five runs scored as the Rancho Alamitos softball team defeated La Quinta 28-14 on Monday.
It was the Vaqueros’ seventh win in eight games. They’re 9-2 overall and tied for first in the Grove League. The Aztecs are 2-10 overall and have lost three games straight.
The game started off even; each team scored five runs in the first and Rancho led by just 18-14 after four innings until they brought the contest to a close with 10 uncontested runs in the fifth.
Also standing out for the green-and-gold was Alani Corona, who was 4-for-6 at the plate with five runs scored and a stolen base.
Next up for Rancho is a game Friday against Western High of Anaheim. The Pioneers are 2-5-2 overall and 0-2 in Orange League play.
In baseball action, Garden Grove (10-5 overall) extended its winning streak to six straight on Monday, defeating the Garfield Bulldogs of Los Angeles 1-0 in a non-league game on Monday.
Mario Salas pitched a gem for the Argonauts, yielding just one hit and struck out eight batters.
The top hitter for the red-and-white was Khai Anderson, who was 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
Garfield’s loss snapped a nine-game winning streak. They’re 11-5-1 overall.
