A one-run game – the bane of the Los Angeles Angels’ existence – continued to cement the team’s position into last place in the American League West.

The Halos got a well-pitched game but that wasn’t quite enough as they lost 3-2 on Tuesday night to the the Houston Astros in Anaheim.

Tied 2-2 after five innings, the Astros got the winning run in the top of the ninth when Yordan Alvarez drove in Nick Allen with a single.

For the Angels, Vaughn Grissom drove in one run in the bottom of the third and Jorge Soler doubled in a run in the fifth.

Reid Detmers had a solid start for the Angels, working five innings while giving up four hits and two runs. He struck out nine batters while walking two.

Hitting well for the Halos were Soler and Grissom who each had two hits and one run batted in.

Taking the loss was Mitch Farris (0-2) who gave up three hits and the decisive score in the ninth.

The Angels are now 42-56, which is tied for the worst record in Major League Baseball. They’ll host the Astros again on Wednesday with Grayson Rodriguez (3-3) taking the mound

Dodgers lose late to Mariners

The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t lose much when they lost a 7-6 decision to the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. But it helped out the M’s in their tight race in the American League West.

It kept them in the three-race in the ALW with the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros.

Shohei Ohtani started things off for the Blue Crew with a leadoff home run –his 25th round-tripper of the season.

The teams exchanged runs until a 5-5 deadlock was broken in the top of the eighth saw the M’s score twice on a home run by Dominic Canzone that made it 7-5.

The Dodgers made it close in the top of the ninth when Ohtani doubled in Dalton Rushing, but with a runner on third with two outs, Mookie Betts grounded out.

With the loss the Dodgers are 67-40 with an 11.5 game lead in the NL West. The Mariners are 53-55 and in third in the AL West.

Ohtani had the best night at bat, with three hits in four at-bats, scoring a run and driving in three. Max Muncy hit his 21st homer.
The Dodgers will host the Mariners again on Wednesday with Eric Lauer (5-4) making the start for the home team.
