Coach arrested on several charges of sex with minor youth

A SUSPECT has been arrested and jailed on crimes of sex with a minor (Shutterstock).

A Norwalk man was arrested Tuesday on charges of sexual assault of a minor stemming from an incident alleged to have taken place in Westminster.

According to Commander Andy Stowers of the WPD, arrested was Michael Avila, 20, a youth soccer coach. He was arrested on charges of:

• lewd or lascivious acts with a child;
• contact with a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense;
• unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor;
• willful cruelty to a child;
• possession of child pornography.

Earlier this month, Westminster police received a report of sexual assault between a minor and an adult male that was alleged to have taken place in February 2026 in the area of the 13500 block of Edwards Street in Westminster.
Avila is a soccer coach at a Los Angeles-based high school. He was located and arrested in Norwalk and later booked into Orange County Jail.

The corresponding school district is working with the WPD.
