An ordinance giving some financial relief to the owners of a large apartment complex in Stanton because of the effects of the GKN Aerospace hazmat incident was approved by the Stanton City Council on Tuesday night.

The vote was 4-1, with Councilmember Donald Torres casting the sole dissenting vote.
By approving the ordinance – which will go for its second and final vote on Sept. 22 – the council will be granting a six-month “temporary pause” on payments owed to the city of developer impact fees to the owners of the 321-unit Cloud House building on Beach Boulevard, north of Garden Grove Boulevard.

The evacuation orders tied to the hazmat incident in West Garden Grove that began on Memorial Day weekend and forced the evacuation of about 50,000 people – many of them residents of Stanton – triggered a state law that requires landlords to reimburse tenants for each day they did not have access to their apartments.
