Heat wave will sizzle for days

Temperatures reaching 101 degrees will bring make this week’s heat wave hitting Orange County one of the hottest of the year.

Elevated temperatures are expected to last through the following week. Saturday in Garden Grove is forecast to hit 101 after being 100 on Friday.

Temps in the high to mid-90s are predicted by the National Weather Service to persist through Wednesday, eventually cooling to the 80s by Thursday, Oct. 8.

Huntington Beach will be cooler. Friday’s high was 90, but Saturday is predicted to rise to 97 and remain in the 90s though Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Residents are cautioned to take extra precautions during this time, limiting outdoor activities, drinking plenty of fluids and staying in air-conditioned rooms.

Some cities are maintaining air-conditioned cooling centers.

In Garden Grove, the city Sports and Recreation Center, 13641 Deodara Dr. (across from Bolsa Grande High School and in Garden Grove Park will) be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sunday.

Seniors are welcome to use the H. Louis Lake Senior Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. through 5 p.m.

No pets all be allowed; service animals only.

In Huntington Beach, there are two locations: Edison Community Center (21377 Magnolia St) and the Central Library (7111 Talbert Ave., at Goldenwest Street), each from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
