A Garden Grove man has been arrested in Irvine regarding an incident that began with the recovery of a stolen bicycle and concluded with a much bigger haul.

According to the Irvine Police Department, IPD officers were investigating a report of a bike theft when they spotted a suspect seated on a bus bench near Woodbridge High School in Irvine.

Police say the suspect – identified as Raul Rodriguez, 19 – told them he had bought the bike from a Santa Ana man.

That led to an investigation that not only recovered the bike but also helped officers find narcotics, cash, and a scale, things that police say can be involved in the possession and sale of illegal drugs.

Rodriguez was arrested booked into Orange County Jail on charges of bicycle theft and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
