Great white spark was spotted in the water; beach was closed

SECTION OF Huntington Beach shoreline was closed to beachgoers after the sighting of a great white shark (HBFD photo).

Don’t go in the water.

Huntington Beach Marine Safety officers received a “credible” report of a 10 to 12 foot great white shark near lifeguard Tower 16 on Tuesday.

According to observers, the shark was circling – a behavior considered to be aggressive, according to Marine Safety’s “shark response protocols.”

The water was then closed from Seapoint Street to the Huntington Beach Pier as a precaution. That’s a difference of about one mile north and south of Tower 16.

Warning signs were posted to notify beachgoers. The closure lasted until 3 p.m. on Wednesday (today).
