Don’t trade Matt! Rumors are flying that the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are in the market to do some dealing, but it would seem to be the height of folly to let loose of Matt Shoemaker, who pitched a six-hit complete game shutout Saturday night as the Halos defeated the Chicago White Sox 1-0 at the Big A.

Shoemaker (5-9) struck out 13 batters and walked none to continue a string of high-quality starts. The Angels only managed two hits off James Shields (4-10), but it was enough.

In the first inning, Yunel Escobar tripled and, one out later, scored on Mike Trout’s ground ball. The only other Angel to get a hit was Ji-Man Choi, who had a single.

The Angels, who have now won six of eight games, are 39-52, still in fifth place in the American League West. They are 14.5 games out of first and 11 games out of a wild card spot.

Their series with the Chisox (45-45) continues Sunday. Jered Weaver (7-7) will make the start for the Angels. Jacob Turner (0-0), just up from AAA ball, will make the start for Chicago.
