Twenty high school students from Garden Grove Unified School District are competing in a vocal sing-off competition for the opportunity to be named the “Voice of Garden Grove.” The fifth annual competition is modeled after the popular NBC television hit “The Voice” and is hosted by the Garden Grove Community Foundation.
Students perform as an opening act for the City of Garden Grove’s Summer Concert Series held every Thursday through August 4, 2016 at Eastgate Park, 12001 St Mark Street, Garden Grove. The winner will be announced at the Aug. 11 concert.
The Voice of Garden Grove contestants are competing for an opportunity to win $1,000 – half of which is donated to the winner’s high school choir.
Student contestants who performed July 14 include: Katelyn Lopez, Santiago High School; Christine Le, Garden Grove High School; Jenny Nguyen, Pacifica High School; Alondra Pineda, Santiago High School; and Monica Van, La Quinta High School.
The line-up for the summer is as follows: on July 21, performers include Caitlin Doan, Rancho Alamitos High School; Catherine Hoang, Garden Grove High School; Vincent Loza, Santiago High School; Nathalie Medina, Los Amigos High School; and Elena Mendez, Santiago High School. On July 28, the line-up includes: Tu-Anh Do, Bolsa Grande High School; Sherry Hu, La Quinta High School; Lucero Matias, Rancho Alamitos High School; Phuong Nguyen, Los Amigos High School; and Vanessa Pineda, Santiago High School.
Aug. 4 contestants include Alyssa Leones, Los Amigos High School; Constance Maldonado, Garden Grove High School; Kenia Miranda, Rancho Alamitos High School; Phillip Nguyen, Bolsa Grande High School; and Kayla Renee Wandalt, Pacifica High School.
