There be some changes made at the top of the Huntington Beach City Council. As the filing period closed Friday for candidates for three posts on the council, only one incumbent – Councilmember Jill Hardy – had filed her paperwork to run in the Nov. 8 election.
Mayor Jim Katapodis and Mayor Pro Tem Dave Sullivan aren’t tossing their hats into the ring for 2016, meaning that there will be at least two new city council members elected this year. Because the two incumbents declined to run, the nomination process for non-incumbent candidates has been extended to Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 5 p.m.
As of the close of the initial filing period, only two persons had filed their papers. According to the City Clerk’s office, here’s the lineup – so far – of candidates in Huntington Beach this fall.
CITY COUNCIL
- Karen Leighton
- Jill Hardy (incumbent)
CITY TREASURER
- Alisa Cutchen (incumbent)
CITY CLERK
- Robin Estanislau (appointed incumbent)
- Kevin Donovan.
