Edison High won its crucial Sunset League football contest Friday night, defeating Los Alamitos 19-7 at Veterans’ Stadium in Long Beach. The Chargers improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in SL action, while the Griffins are 4-2 and 1-1.
Huntington Beach is in a tie for first in the Sunset League after its 39-21 win over Marina, and La Quinta won its sixth game in rolling past Rancho Alamitos 42-17 in Garden Grove League action. That sets up a potential showdown with defending champion Garden Grove on Nov. 3 for the GGL title. The Sunset League showdown between Edison and Huntington Beach will be on Nov. 4

EMPIRE LEAGUE
Tustin 28, Pacifica 21: Ben Jefferson had 236 all-purpose yards for the Mariners, who lost to the Tillers after three times holding the lead. PHS is 0-2 in EL action and 3-4 overall.
GARDEN GROVE LEAGUE
La Quinta 42, Rancho Alamitos 17: The Aztecs defeated the Vaqueros for the first time in eight years. QB Micheal Nadeau had 210 all-purpose yards for LQHS, which improved its overall record to 6-1, 2-0 in GGL action.
Los Amigos 45, Bolsa Grande 7: The Lobos improved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in league with the win. The Matadors dropped to 1-6 and 0-2.
GOLDEN WEST LEAGUE
Segerstrom 20, Orange 17: The Panthers led most of the game before falling to the Jaguars and see their overall record go to 5-2 and 0-2 in GWL action.
Ocean View 35, Westminster 20: Xavier Salgado led the way for the Seahawks, passing for 114 yards and throwing for 114 more. The Lions were led by Noah Melbon with 193 aerial yards. OV is 4-3 and 1-1; WHS is 3-4 and 1-1.
SUNSET LEAGUE
Edison 17, Los Alamitos 9: The Chargers knocked off their likely toughest competition with the win. Griffin O’Connor passed for 165 yards as EHS improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league.
Newport Harbor 66, Fountain Valley 34: In a wild high-scoring affair, the Barons dropped to 1-7 and 0-3 in league. Andrew Ross threw for 242 yards for FVHS.
Huntington Beach 39, Marina 21: A 33-point outburst in the third quarter blew open a tight game and the Oilers went on to improve their record to 4-3 overall. Marina went to 3-4 and 0-2.
