Two Westminster Police Department officers were attacked – and one injured – Friday morning in the Civic Center. According to the WPD, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. when officers were summoned to City Hall, 8200 Westminster Blvd., on a report of a “man acting bizarre and pulling the fire alarm.”

Officers decided that a mental health evaluation was needed, but while waiting for a health worker to arrive, the situation turned violent. According to the WPD, the man tried to flee and assaulted the officers. The man was subdued with the help of other policemen, but one officer was struck several times in the head, causing multiple visible injuries. The officer was treated at the scene.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Orange County Jail.
