Chargers hang on to #2 CIF ranking

THE ANAHEIM DUCKS lost their season opener Thursday night 4-2 to the Dallas Stars.

EDISON continued in the second spot in the CIF-SS Division 3 ranking this week.

Edison High retained the number two ranking in the CIF-SS Division 3 football poll released Monday. The Chargers (6-1) are behind top-rated La Mirada (6-2) and are one of four teams from the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area ranked in the football top 10s.

Here are the local teams noted by the CIF-SS, by sport.

Football: Edison is second in the Division 3, while Huntington Beach (4-3) is eighth in Division 7. Garden Grove (5-2) is 10th in Division 8, and Orange (5-2) is fourth in Division 13. Ocean View was unranked but received some votes in the D-13 poll.

Girls’ tennis: No local teams were ranked, but Fountain Valley got some votes in the Division 1 poll.

Girls’ volleyball: Edison and Huntington Beach are fourth and fifth in Division 1. Garden Grove is sixth in Division 7.

Cross country: In boys’ Division 3, Ocean View is 10th. In girls’ Division 1, Fountain Valley is ninth and Bolsa Grande is 11th in D-3.

Boys’ water polo: Huntington Beach continues to be third in Division 1. In Division 6, Ocean View is second; Pacifica and Los Amigos are unranked but received some votes.
