GARLIC and Chives was ice of two Garden Grove restaurants named among the best in Southern California.

Two eateries in Garden Grove have been honored as among the top eateries in Southern California. The new “101 Best Restaurants” list published by the Los Angeles Times named Brodard Chateau and Garlic & Chives” in the roster created by food critic Jonathan Gold.

Brodard, located at 9100 Trask Ave., was 71st on the list, while Chives, located at 9892 Westminster Ave., was 81st. The full lost can be seen at www.latimes/jgold101 .

Parents of students in the Garden Grove Unified School District are invited to attend the district’s California State Standards Parent Information on Thursday (Nov. 3) from 6-7:30 p.m. at Ralston Intermediate School, 10851 Lampson Ave., Garden Grove.

The event will start in the multipurpose room and then attend breakout sessions in math, reading, science, history, assessment and technology.

VETERANS’ HONOR RIDE STARTS IN HB ON SUNDAY

Volunteers from the Association of the United States and the American Legion are partnering to honor veterans by hosting the second annual “Veterans Honor Ride” from the Huntington Beach Pier to the Veterans Administration Health Care Facility in Long Beach.

The motorcycle ride will start with a special ceremony on Sunday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the pier at Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway. Registration is from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. with kickstands up at 10 a.m. After visiting veterans at the VA facility from 11 a.m. to noon, the ride will conclude at the American Legion Post 716 in Los Alamitos. GGPD GETS GRANT FOR TRAFFIC SAFETY

The Garden Grove Police Department has been awarded a $249,100 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety for a year-long program of special enforcement and public awareness efforts to prevent traffic-related deaths and injuries.

Activities will include:

  • DUI checkpoints
  • DUI saturation patrols
  • Bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement
  • Seat belt and child safety seat enforcement.

Funding for the program comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration.
