A Huntington Beach man was charged on Wednesday with raping an unconscious teenage girl while he was an Uber driver. According to the Orange County District Attorney’s office, Samer Alaaldin Mahran, 23, was formally charged in Central Justice Center in Santa Ana, and will be arraigned on Dec. 2.
He faces four felony charges in connection with his alleged assault on a 17-year-old Laguna Beach girl, who authorities say was unconscious because of intoxication. The OCDA says that around 2 a.m. on Nov. 5, the suspect picked up the girl near a bar in Huntington Beach as fare to drive her home to Laguna.
But her parents, who called called for the ride, became anxious when she did not arrive and called police. The suspect was arrested later at his apartment in Huntington Beach. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 28 years in state prison.
He is free on $100,000 bond.
