Two local girls’ volleyball teams advanced Wednesday in the CIF SoCal regionals. Edison swept Granada Hills in three straight games, while Huntington Beach did the same to Palisades, both in Division I action.
Cassidy Dennison and Hannah Phair each had eight kills for the Chargers (32-8), while Camryn Sanchez led the Oilers (30-4) with 10.
OILERS IN POLO FINALS
Huntington Beach High’s boys’ water polo team advanced to the CIF-SS Division 1 finals with a 7-6 win over Harvard-Westlake Wednesday.
The Oilers (24-3) will face Orange Lutheran (25-3) in the finals at Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine. In their semifinal win, HBHS got 13 saves from Patrick Saunders and the game-winning goal from Garrett Zann.
DUCKS TO HOST NEW JERSEY
The Anaheim Ducks will take on the New Jersey Devils Thursday at Honda Center at 7 p.m. The Ducks are 8-6-3 and in second place with 19 points in the NHL Pacific Division. The Devils are 9-3-3 and in fourth place in the Metropolitan Division with 91 points.
