Ducks crash in Detroit; M’s are 17-1

THE ANAHEIM DUCKS blew a 3-1 early lead and went on to a 6-4 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

In a slugfest in the Motor City, the Anaheim Ducks were beaten 6-4 by the Detroit Wings Saturday and fell out of first place in the NHL Pacific Division.

The Ducks built an early 3-1 lead in the second period, but fell before a 5-1 barrage the rest of the way to see their record go to 16-11-5, worth 37 points. They now trail the San Jose Sharks by two points.

sportsbriefsAnaheim got two goals from Rickard Rakell (his 13th and 14th), as well as Shea Theodore (first) and Cam Fowler (eighth). Jonathan Bernier had 17 saves but gave up four goals. Josh Gibson had nine saves but yielded a pair of goals.

The Ducks remain on the road, visiting Toronto (12-11-7) on Monday.

MARINERS WIN AND LOSE IN HOOPS

Pacifica’s boys’ basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 54-51 to Godinez in the championship game of the Loatella Tournament. Andrew Brown scored 21 point for the Mariners (8-1).

But the girls’ team kept on rolling, defeating Marina 77-43. Mercedes Robles led the M’s with 20 points as the female Mariners improved to 9-0.
