Mariner teams keep rolling; Ducks lose

PACIFICA’s boys and girls basketball teams have a combined 22-2 record so far.

Pacifica’s basketball programs continue to the class of the 2016-17 campaign, as both the boys and girls teams rolled to wins Thursday and improved their combined records to 22-2.

The boys defeated district rival Garden Grove 57-42 behind standout performances by Andrew Brown (25 points) and Paolo Zubillago (21). The Mariners improved to 10-1, while Grove went to 7-4.

On the girls’ side, the Mariners defeated San Juan Hills 68-46 in the Lady Spartans tournament at Villa Park sportsbriefsHigh. The M’s put the game away early with a 25-2 run in the third quarter. Mercedes Robles scores 19 for the Mariners, followed by Isabella Robles with 17. The girls are now 12-1 overall.

DUCKS EDGED IN OVERTIME

anaheim-ducks-logo1The Anaheim Ducks finished a long and tiring road trip Thursday night with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Senators in Ottawa. The journey saw them win twice and lose four times. They are now 17-12-6 and in third place in the NHL Pacific Division.

After a scoreless first period, the Ducks and Senators each scored once, with Jakob Silfverberg getting the Anaheim goal at 1:02 of the second period, his ninth goal of the season.

But that was it for the Ducks as, after a scoreless third, Mike Hoffman scored the game-winner in overtime at 4:03. The next game for Anaheim will be Tuesday as the Ducks host the San Jose Sharks at Honda Center.
