John Gibson isn’t the only top-notch goalkeeper on the Anaheim Ducks’ roster. Jonathan Bernier, making his first start since before Christmas, had 26 saves and his first shutout in the orange and black as the Ducks defeated the Arizona Coyotes 3-0 in the Gila River Arena.
Bernier’s gem lifted the Ducks’ record to 24-13-18 (worth 56 points), still atop the NHL’s Pacific Division. Anaheim is on a tear as it returns to Honda Center, having won six of its last seven games.
“He was solid in net,” said Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle. “When things are going his way, there’s not a lot of second and third chances. And if there were some tonight, our defense did a good job of limiting those opportunities. It’s great for a guy who had his mother on the [siblings] trip.”
Goals were scored by Hampus Lindholm, Nick Ritchie and Ryan Kesler. The Ducks are next in action Sunday hosting the St. Louis Blues (22-16-5).
