ALL three local prep basketball teams in action Thursday lost.

Thursday was a rough night for area high school basketball teams. All three squads from schools in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area were defeated.

On the boys’ side, Orangewood Academy suffered a 49-43 loss to Capistrano Valley in San Joaquin League action. Justin Cho led the Spartans (1-2 in league, 6-16 overall) with 15 points, followed up by Uriel Bautista with nine.

In Sunset League play, Marina (0-6, 2-24) lost to Newport Harbor 61-44. Jordan Nowden was the top scorer for the Vikings, followed by Jakob Alamundun with 11.

On the girls’ side, Orangewood lost 56-49 to Fairmont Prep of Anaheim in a San Joaquin League game. Gabriela Rosas had 22 for Orangewood (3-1, 14-7) and Caroline Montes added 10 points.
