Garden Grove High’s boys basketball team moved into third place in the Garden Grove League with a 62-45 win over Rancho Alamitos Thursday night in the Vaquero gymnasium. The Argonauts are now 5-3 in league and 16-9 overall while The Ranch falls to 4-4 and 10-15.

Brandon Coleman scored 15 to lead Grove, while Tommy Tran had 15 for Rancho. The game was relatively close until the visitors blew the contest open with a 21-10 fourth quarter advantage.

Also on Thursday, Bolsa Grande and Santiago each won as they move toward a showdown on Feb. 9 at the Matador gym. Bolsa (7-1 in league, 18-6 overall) defeated La Quinta 59-44 and Santiago (6-2, 15-9) beat Los Amigos 65-55.

In Bolsa’s game, the Matadors were paced by Justin Phan’s 27 points. The Cavaliers got 18 points from Chris Robertson.

Tiffany Ly scoffed 27 points for the Bolsa Grande girls’ team as the Matadors beat La Quinta 39-31. The win allowed the Mats (5-3 in league, 13-11 overall) to move within one game of the first place Aztecs (6-2, 15-9) in the Garden Grove League race.
