BRACKETS and pairings for basketball and soccer will be announced on Monday by the CIF-SS.

And now comes the waiting. The regular season having finished for area high school basketball teams, players, coaches and fans have to hang on until Sunday to find out who made the CIF-SS playoffs and who their opponents might be.

For the boys and girls, the brackets will be announced live at 1 p.m. on Sunday. On Monday, boys’ soccer matchups will be announced starting at 9 a.m. and girls at 10 a.m.

Brackets for girls’ water polo teams were announced Saturday. First round games will be at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Here’s how things line up for teams serving the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area.

Division 1: Huntington Beach at Santa Barbara in a wild card game on Monday. The winner will visit Foothill on Santa Ana.

Division 3: Villa Park at Ocean View.

Division 6: The winner of wild card game A (Elsinore-Norco) at Garden Grove.

Quarterfinal games will be played on Saturday, Feb. 18, with semifinals on Wednesday, Feb. 22 and the finals on Saturday, Feb. 25.

The basketball division brackets will be revealed on Monday, but the final watch list for the Open Division playoffs didn’t include Edison, a result of the Chargers’ loss to Los Alamitos earlier this week.

In a tie-breaker game for third in the Sunset League, the Huntington Beach boys’ basketball team on Friday defeated Newport Harbor 48-40 with a 19-5 surge in the fourth quarter. Cooper Starkel led the Oilers with 15 points.

The CIF-SS brackets and pairing will be posted at www.cifss.org and also on our website.
