LOCAL high school water polo and soccer teams won four of 17 CIF-SS playoff contests on Thursday.

Misfortune rained on local high school soccer and water polo teams in CIF-SS playoff contests on Thursday. Teams representing the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area lost 13 of 17 contests, and – in the day’s biggest upset – top-ranked Santiago High lost its Division 1 opener in overtime to Diamond Bar, 1-0.

Here are Thursday’s results.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

  • Division 1-A: El Rancho 54, Westminster 47; Mira Costa 61, Edison 33
  • Division 2-A: Warren 56, Garden Grove 29; South Pasadena 52, Ocean View 45
  • Division 3-AA: Pacifica (Oxnard) 52, Pacifica (Garden Grove) 49
  • Division 4-A: Los Amigos 51, Costa Mesa 47; Santa Ynez 36, Bolsa Grande 35.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

  • Division 6: Garden Grove 13, Norco 8.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

  • Division 1: Huntington Beach 3, Harvard Westlake 0
  • Division 2: La Mirada 0, Fountain Valley 0 (LM advances); Pacifica 3, Yucaipa 1.
  • Division 4: Alemany 2, Ocean View 0
  • Division 5: Windward 3, Westminster 0; Maranatha 1, Garden Grove 0.
  • Division 6: West Valley 4, Los Amigos 3.

BOYS’ SOCCER

  • Division 1: Diamond Bar 1, Santiago 0 (double overtime)
  • Division 3: Burroughs (Burbank) 7, Westminster 1.
