Rickard Rakell scored two goals as the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Boston Bruins 5-3 Wednesday night at Honda Center. With the score deadlocked at 3-3 in the third period, Rakell got his second tally – his 24th goal of the season – to put the Ducks ahead, and Andrew Cogliano lit the red lamp with his 13th goal for an insurance score.
Other Anaheim goals were by Ondrej Kase (fifth of the season) and
Josh Manson (third).
The win put the Ducks’ record at 32-20-10, worth 74 points and a tie for second place in the NHL Pacific Division with the Edmonton Oilers. The San Jose Sharks are in first with 77 points.
Next up for the Ducks will be a rivalry game at Staples Center on Saturday against the Los Angeles Kings.
CHARGERS, OILERS ADVANCE IN PLAYOFFS
Two local high school teams posted victories in CIF-SS playoff action on Wednesday.
In Division 1 girls’ basketball, Huntington Beach High defeated Duarte 51-34 in a quarterfinal game and will advance to a semifinal game on Saturday at Esperanza. Frankie Wade Sanchez scored 24 points for the Oilers.
In boys’ soccer, Edison beat Mission Viejo 2-0 in the Division 1 second round playoff match. Next up for the Chargers will be East Valley High of Redlands on Saturday at the EHS pitch.
Less fortunate in playoff action was Orangewood Academy of Garden Grove, which lost an Open Division consolation bracket game 56-44 to Brea Olinda High.
