“Kong” and “Cline” top the weekend fun

OH, YOU BIG APE! Kong is back on the screen this weekend in “Kong: Skull Island.”

What’s entertaining this weekend in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area? Here’s our guide.

MOVIES

Just one major film release out this weekend, and it’s “Kong: Skull Island,” the umpteenth King Kong movie. This PG-13 film stars John Goodman, Samuel Jackson, Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston. Oh, a very large computer-generated gorilla.

ON STAGE

“Always, Patsy Cline” continues at the Gem Theatre on Main Street in Garden Grove with performances Thursday through March 19.

  • “Orphans” opens on Friday at the Mainstage Theater at Golden West College in Huntington Beach. Performances will be March 10-11, 16-18 at 7:30 p.m. and March 12 and 19 at 2 p.m. General admission is $16 and students and seniors $14.

EVENTS

Fun things to do in the area this weekend include:

  • “Kite Party 15” will be at the Huntington Beach Pier Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • 3/1 Marines 5k Run/Walk at Huntington City Beach (Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway) from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
