
A MAN allegedly wielding a bat and a broken bottle was fatally shot by police in Huntington Beach Thursday night.
UPDATE: The man fatally shot Thursday night by Huntington Beach police has been identified. According to the Orange County Coroner he is Steven Schlitz, 29, a resident of Huntington Beach.
A man reportedly armed with a baseball bat and a broken bottle was fatally shot by Huntington Beach police Thursday night. According to the HBPD, the incident took place at about 7:21 p.m. at the sports complex at 18120 Goldenwest St.
Police received calls from people reporting that the man was chasing children and others around the sports fields while the games were taking place. As officers arrived, the man reportedly ran into a set of bleachers which were occupied by several families.
Two officers fired their weapons at the man who died of his wounds at the scene. The identity of the man has not been released. There were no other injuries.
As is protocol, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be investigating the shooting. Witnesses to the incident are asked to call (714) 647-7055.
