FRANKIE WADE SANCHEZ was named co-Player of the Year in CIF-SS 1-A girls’ basketball.

CIF-SS teams for winter sports have been announced and the pickings were relatively slim for schools in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area.

Frankie Wade Sanchez of Huntington Beach High was named co-Player of the Year for Division 1A girls’ basketball, but many outstanding area athletes got no recognition at all. Here are local honorees:

Boys’ basketball: Randal Walker (Edison), Division 1AA. Miehkel Harvey (Ocean View), Division 3AA.

Girls’ basketball: Wade Sanchez (Huntington Beach).

Boys’ soccer: Dominic Hair (Edison), Division 1. Jesus Vargas (Santiago), Division 3.

Girls’ water polo: Allison Williams (Garden Grove), Division 6.
