Drivers flip car and kill fire hydrant

The weekend in Huntington Beach has been a golden age of dumb and possibly drunk driving.

On Friday at 7 a.m., at motorist driving on Lake Street lost control of his vehicle, according to police. The car crashed into several parked vehicles, then flipped over. The driver was arrested for drunk driving.

That same night, a driver smashed an automobile into a fire hydrant at Second and Olive streets, sending a plume of water high into the air. The motorist fled the scene, but was soon caught and arrested for hit-and-run.

Area police departments are making a special effort this month to deter or cite for “distracted driving” violations.
