Trial starts in defrauding of grandma

THREE people are on trial for allegedly defrauding an elderly Garden Grove woman of $115,000.

According to the Orange County District Attorney, Christina Espinosa Aldana, Willmar Lainez and Thalia Lugo-Lainez are facing charges related to victimizing the maternal grandmother of the latter suspect.

Between Nov. 7, 2008 and Jan. 1, 2009, Lugo-Lainez and Lainez were living with the victim and allegedly forged her signature on a second mortgage. Aldana is accused of violating her position of trust as a notary public by knowingly submitting and verifying the faked documents.

Lugo-Lainez and Lainez are accused of taking money received from that second mortgage and depositing it into their own personal bank accounts, resulting in a loss to the victim of over $75,000.

Also, Lainez and Lugo-Lainez are accused of stealing the victim’s identifying information in 2014, using that to steal over $40,000 for her account for their own personal use.
