Silver medals for eight area schools

Eight comprehensive high schools serving the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area were honored as “silver medal” winners by U.S. News and World Report’s annual ranking of American public schools announced on Tuesday.

The ranking was based on success in state assessments (including test scores) and college readiness. No local schools won the “gold medal” status, and five local schools were unranked. Four silver medalists were from the Garden Grove Unified School District, and four from the Huntington Beach Union High School District.

Here are the area schools recognized:

  • La Quinta (GGUSD), ranked 138th in California.
  • Pacifica (GGUSD), ranked 174th in California
  • Huntington Beach (HBUHSD), ranked 188th in California
  • Bolsa Grande (GGUSD), ranked 191st in California
  • Marina (HBUHSD), ranked 233rd in California
  • Santiago (GGUSD), ranked 366th in California
  • Edison (HBUHSD), ranked 377th in California
  • Westminster (GGUSD), ranked 381st in California.

Unranked were Garden Grove High, Los Amigos and Rancho Alamitos (GGUSD), Ocean View (HBUHSD) and Orange High (Orange Unified School District).
