A year in jail for ex-campaign treasurer

A FORMER campaign treasurer for Rep. Dana Rohrabacher was sentenced to one year in county jail Tuesday.

The former volunteer treasurer for the election campaign of Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) was sentenced to one year in Orange County Jail Tuesday for embezzling over $300,000 in campaign funds and from his former employer.

Jack Wenpo Wu, 46, of Newport Beach pleaded guilty on Jan. 17, 2017 to 21 felony forgery counts and three felony counts of grand theft by embezzlement. His sentencing was influenced by the facts that the theft exceeded $100,000, led to a property loss of over $200,000 and was an “aggravated while collar crime” over $100,000, according to the Orange County District Attorney.

In addition to the one-year jail sentence, Wu will have five years of formal probation and must make restitution of the amount taken.
