A 13-YEAR-OLD boy was arrested Wednesday afternoon for the stabbing of a 30-year-old female relative in Garden Grove.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday afternoon in a stabbing attack on a female family member, according to Garden Grove police. The woman, 30, is in critical condition at an area hospital.

At 5:44 p.m. police were sent to the 11000 block of Gilbert Street in Garden Grove regarding a report of a woman having been stabbed. She had suffered stab wounds to the abdomen.

Officers rendered first aid, and Garden Grove Fire Department paramedics treated the woman before she was transported to the hospital. According to Lt. Carl Whitney, she identified the teenage relative as her assailant.

A search of the area turned up the suspect at a nearby shopping center, where he was taken into custody without incident. During the search, Gilbert Street was closed to traffic for several hours.

GGPD detectives are continuing their investigation of the crime.
