Eight people are dead and a suspect arrested after a shooting spree in Mississippi early Sunday morning, according to authorities. The man – identified as Willie Corey Godbolt, 35 – is believed by authorities to be the gunman who killed a deputy sheriff and seven other people, including four women, another man and two boys in three locations in Lincoln County.
The shootings followed a call to police over a domestic dispute. In a video posted online by the Clarion-Ledger newspaper, the suspect said, “Suicide by cop was my intention. I ain’t fit to live. Not after what I’ve done.”
Godbolt is being treated at a local hospital for a gunshot wound. The deputy has been identified as William Durr. None of the other victims have been released by authorities.
