UPDATE: Cyndi Paik was approved as the new superintendent for the Westminster School District at a meeting of the WSD Board Thursday night. She will officially begin her duties on July 1. “I am humbled and honored to be selected as superintendent of this remarkable district,” she said. “I am committed to promoting a culture of passion for learning as well as developing the variety of specialized programs we offer students to ensure their success in school and the global economy.”

Cyndi Paik is expected to be appointed as the new superintendent of the Westminster School District when the WSD’s Board of Trustees meets on Thursday. Paik, who is currently serving as assistant superintendent for education services, would start her new duties as top educator on July 1.

The board will meet at the district offices at 14121 Cedarwood Ave., Westminster. A closed session to discuss the appointment and other issues is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the public session for 7 p.m.

Paik would succeed Marian Kim Phelps, who left the WSD in April to become the new superintendent of the Poway Unified School District, a K-12 system in northern San Diego County. The WSD is a K-8 district serving most of Westminster and Midway City, as well as portions of Garden Grove and Huntington Beach.

Before coming to the WSD, Paik has been an elementary school teacher, a literacy coach, an assistant principal, elementary school principal and administrative director of accountability and special programs for the Orange Unified School District. She holds a doctorate from the USC Rossier School of Education.

Her starting salary will be $220,000, going up to $255,000 by the sixth year of her tenure.
