A man accused of assaulting an employee at the Garden Grove city jail in attempt to escape will be in court Monday for a hearing. According to the Orange County District Attorney’s office, that will take place at 9 a.m. in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.
On Feb. 29, 2016, Steiner Pese Faupusa allegedly approached the employee of a Coco’s Bakery Restaurant in Garden Grove and tried to climb into his car. A confrontation led to the suspect allegedly fleeing on foot and boarding a bus, but Faupusa was arrested by Garden Grove police.
While in the city holding jail, Faupusa allegedly tried to leave via a closed door when he was called from his cell to be photographed and fingerprinted. Authorities claim he demanded that the jailor open the door and struck him in the head and body repeatedly. The jail officer was able to activate a panic button and GGPD officers were able to restrain the defendant.
