Motown came to Garden Grove on Thursday as the Stone Soul band rocked Eastgate Park in the first show of the free Summer Concert Series. The band was introduced by Mayor Steve Jones, and the concert preceded by the presentation of the flag by the Garden Grove Police Department’s honor guard. Miss Garden Grove Missy Mendoza sang the national anthem to a crowd of close to a thousand people.

Lead singer Matt Grey Phairis (above) belted out many a familiar hit from the Four Tops, Sam & Dave and others. The concerts continue for five more Thursdays. Scheduled to appear are L.A. Vation (Tribute to U2) on July 13, Jeri Curl (80s funk with tributes to Michael Jackson and Prince) on July 20, The Suffragettes (today’s top 40 hits) on July 27, The Kellye Huff Band (modern country) on Aug 3 and The Answer (classic rock on Aug. 10).
