Caddy crashes traffic light; man arrested

A CHASE led to a Cadillac crashing into a traffic signal at Brookhurst Street and Garden Grove Boulevard Wednesday night.

A driver who allegedly tried to evade police and came to a stop only when his car crashed into a traffic signal late Wednesday night was arrested. According to Sgt. Luis Payan of the Garden Grove Police Department, the incident took place around 10:13 p.m. An officer in the area of Brookhurst Street spotted a black Cadillac CTS “traveling at a high rate of speed.” The vehicle didn’t heed an attempt at a traffic stop, and it sped up southbound on Brookhurst Street with the officer in pursuit.

The chase lasted for one mile until the Cadillac struck a traffic signal pole at Garden Grove Boulevard. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, had to be cut out of the Cadillac by the Garden Grove Fire Department. He was taken to UCI Medical Center for treatment. After his release, he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and felony evading arrest.

Eastbound lanes of Garden Grove Boulevard were shut down for about two hours until the vehicle was removed from the scene. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked for call the GGPD at (714) 741-5704.
