
A DUI CHECKPOINT Friday night and Saturday morning in Huntington Beach resulted in four drunk driving arrests.
Four arrests for drunk driving were made Friday night and early Saturday morning by Huntington Beach police at a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint in the civic center area.
According to Sgt. Julio Mendez of the HBPD’s traffic unit, the checkpoint ran from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. at Main Street and Yorktown Avenue, near the site of Huntington Beach High’s season-opening football game. There was heavy vehicle and foot traffic.
A total of 802 vehicles went through the checkpoint, with 574 screened. In addition to the four arrested for drunk driving, another motorist was arrested on another criminal charge and seven were cited or arrested for driving without a valid drivers’ license. Three were cited for vehicle code violations.
Garden Grove police also held a DUI/DL checkpoint at the same time. Both were funding by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
